Parents’ Code of Conduct

As a parent, you play an important role in the development of your son/daughter and of his/her team mates. Your encouragement and good example will do more to ensure their sportsmanship and self-discipline than any other influence. The other team is the opponent not the enemy and should be treated with respect. While wining is important the continued development of your child’s physical and mental skills is more important.

 1.      Support your child

Give encouragement and praise; help your child work toward skills improvement. Teach your child that hard work and effort are often more important than wining.

 2.      Always be positive

Children learn more from example than criticism. Always praise good efforts and encourage children that have made errors. Teach your child to be gracious in victory and  to turn defeat into victory by working hard toward improvement.

 3.      Don’t be a sideline coach or referee

Refrain from coaching or refereeing from the sideline. This only serves to distract children. Remember playing good football is more difficult than it looks. Official are symbols of fair play, integrity and sportsmanship – Do not openly question their judgment or honesty.

 4.      Demonstrate a positive attitude toward your opponents and their families

Opponents are not enemies. Make it your responsibility to make visiting teams welcome. Never allow your self to be drawn into a verbal disagreement with opposing players or coaches.

 5.      Remember your child wants to have fun

Take care not to exert your own unreasonable demands on your child. Let your child experience the fun of competing and the challenge of excelling.

I / We will set a good example to my child and his/her soccer development by adhering at all times to the following.

  •  We will not criticize the referee openly or directly, during or after games. Any criticism shall be done in writing and sent to the appropriate Goonallabah FC representative.
  • We will show the quality of our sportsman ship during and after every game and help our child to thank the referee regardless of the result.
  • We will give only positive feedback to players.
  • We shall do our best to have our child prepared for every game.
  • We shall demonstrate our patience by supporting the learning efforts of players and coaches.
  • We will encourage our children at games within the spirit of fair play and do our best to cheer their effort regardless of the outcome.
  • We will do our best to teach our children to become students of the game.
  • We shall leave the coaching to the coach during the game. We shall give positive encouragement to all players on the team and not instructions.
  • We agree to do our best to have as much fun watching the game as the players have playing the game.
  • We understand that improper behavior at games may result in parents being asked to leave the playing area by the referee. We agree to abide by the instruction given to us by the referee and ground official.
